DIRIGENTERNA
by Christina Olofson, Documentary, 80', 1987, 35mm, SWEDEN
With Joann Falletta, Victoria Bond, Veronika Dudarova

Several women are orchestra conductors. When one knows the long conservative tradition of the symphony orchestras, one enjoys watching these passionate women, determined to acquire the control of such "an instrument". To reverse centuries of taboos, to force themselves into a role of power, where the privilege to conduct was never shared by men, to put women in the role of the maestro, in order to reach the heights of a symphonic oeuvre… all that simply becomes an exploit. The film allows us to get to know these exceptional women, who, in a different way, help us reach an intense musical pleasure.
