In Djerba, Aicha, 18, has married Said who works in Tunis. From the honeymoon on, Aicha expresses her desire to break free from the tradition and leave for Tunis. The brave and bold young woman proposes to weave carpets, in order to earn enough money to make her dream come true. Said imposes one condition: she must give birth to a son. In the beginning, the home coming of the men is a pretext for a celebration that the women prepare happily. Then as years go by, Aicha becomes disillusioned.

 

MOUFIDA TLATLI
Born in Sidi Bou-Saïd, Moufida Tlatli, after graduating from the IDHEC film school in 1968, in the editing department, she went back to live in Tunisia in 1972. Her name appears on the credits of some of the most important Arab films from 1970 to 1990. She first came to international attention in 1994 when her first film The Silences of the Palace, won international fame and is set to extend her reputation as a rare instance of a strong female voice in Arab cinema. The Silences of the Palace, was presented in Créteil in 2003
